Joette 'Jo' Shook Obituary

Joette 'Jo' Shook

March 18, 1941 - March 3, 2021

Joette Lynn Shook (Ross) March 18, 1941 - March 3, 2021 Just call her Jo. Marshall G Shook, husband of 60 years and daughters Cheryl Shook and Laura Blackford (Shook) sadly announce the passing of Joette on 3/3/21 @ 3:30 a.m. Those who knew her know that numbers were significant in her life. Born in Detroit MI 3/18/41 Jo was the eldest of 4 children to parents James and Betty (Stevic) Ross.

Jo went to Redford High School graduating in 1959. High school is where she met and married her husband of 6 decades Marshall G Shook. Jo had a long career with Michigan Bell and after retirement in 1986 she went on to enjoy a second 20 career in retail sales at Bealls in Florida and Kohls in Florida and Michigan. Jo and Marsh relocated many times from Michigan to Florida and back again throughout their lives together. Thus prompting the saying “The Shooks go on vacation with a moving van”. Jo loved the warmth of Summer and ease of life with Marsh in Florida but equally was drawn back “home” to Michigan and the most important thing in her life, her FAMILY. Always drawn to the water as a place of peace came from her love of fishing, first as a child with her father James on the big lakes and then on the Boardman river with her grandma Volker. Jo was always energetic, active, beautiful, wam, funny and very private but had a grace about her that balanced the power and strength that she displayed each and every day of her life.

Jo had great pride in being a strong independent woman. She had 4 major loves in her life, her family & husband Marshall, her furchild dog Taz, The Red Wings and playing Bingo! The only thing she enjoyed more than a good laugh was seeing 777 on a slot machine. She truly believed she hit the jackpot every time she found a penny saying “a penny from heaven from my Daddy”. Joette Shook is survived by husband, Marshall G Shook, her daughters, Cheryl Shook & Laura Blackford (Tim). 3 Grandchildren, Evan Welsh, Jessica (Joshua) Blackford, Timothy (Jennifer) Blackford, and great granddaughter Joelle Blackford. Siblings: Douglas (Judi) Ross, Jan (Pete) Eichinger, Kenneth (Pam) Ross On Saturday March 6th 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Phillips funeral home in South Lyon Michigan we will be honoring the life of Joette L Shook. We welcome you to join us in sharing memories, laughter, joy and tears with those who knew and loved her.

The continued health and safety of those we love is most important so please honor and Jo in the safest way possible for you and your loved ones. Joette will be laid to rest in the Shook family plot in Gaylord Michigan sometime in late spring. In lieu of flowers and donations, Jo would have wanted you to spend time with your family and those you love.

Joette is just the second Pitcher ES student to grace this page. She had so much energy, beauty and enthusiasm that i can only imagine her laughing.
