Margaret Elaine Coughenour obituary, Berkley, MI

Margaret Elaine (Mutch) Coughenour

1941- 2023

On March 24, 2023, after a decades-long struggle with Parkinsons, the Lord called Marge home. She left this earth peacefully from her home in Southfield with family at her side. She is now forever with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who she loved and served faithfully. She is pain free in a new body and new home.
Marge was born March 25, 1941, in Detroit to Scottish parents Elizabeth Strachan and James Mutch. She lived with her family in the same house in the community of Brightmoor, Michigan, until she married Bob Coughenour, a boy she met in her church youth group at age 15. She attended Redford High School and later Bob Jones University, where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics and Nutrition.
After marriage Marge taught Bible classes in the same youth group she grew up in, touching the lives of many teen girls for Christ. She modeled Christ before them in her loving and kind ways, which many fondly remember to this day. After a brief time in the work world, she devoted her life to raising and nurturing a family of four children, Eva, Craig, Brent, and Matthew. After Eva's life changing surgery at age 13, Marge became the equivalent of a 24-hour nurse to her for the next 16 years. At the same, she labored tirelessly as wife, mother, grandmother, and servant of many who the Lord brought across her path, reaching out to neighborhood ladies and teaching Bible classes to children and health and nutrition classes to young women.
Diagnosed with Parkinsons in 2000, she spent the next 23 years battling its effects while continuing to live a dedicated life of service to the Lord, her family and friends. She leaves behind husband Bob of over 58 years, and three children; Craig and his wife Amy, Brent, and Matthew and his wife Katelyn. Her legacy continues with her grandchildren Hadley, Raegan, Ainsley, Leighton, Isla and another of God's gifts yet to be born to Matthew and Katelyn in August.
Visitation will be March 31, 2023, at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home in Berkley, Michigan, from 3:00 to 8:30 pm. Marge's life will be celebrated at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Southfield, Michigan, April 1, at an 11:00 a.m. service, with visitation at 10:00 in the church foyer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Marge's honor to Southfield Christian School and Highland Park Baptist Church.
