Leonard Alvin Tiefenbach: 2/28/1941 - 7/24/2012
Leonard Alvin “Buddy” Tiefenbach, age 71, of Drummond Island, Mich., died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born February 28, 1941 in Wayne County, Mich., the son of Leonard August Tiefenbach and Hazel Ina (Toivonen) Tiefenbach.
Buddy lived on Drummond Island until age ten when he moved to the Detroit area. After graduating from Redford High School, he worked at Twin Payne Glass Company before he began working in carpeting sales and installation. He married Jo Ann Smith on January 26, 1962 and they raised their family in Livonia until 1974 when they moved to Drummond Island. Buddy worked on flooring as well as working at Drummond Dolomite until degenerative arthritis disabled him at age 50.
Buddy was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Detroit and the Drummond Island Lions Club. He attended the Lutheran Church in Redford.
Buddy enjoyed dancing, gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time in the woods. He designed their home on Drummond, cut the logs, had them sawed into lumber, and built the home himself.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Jo; sons, Jody Tiefenbach of Maysville, Ky., Keith (Donna) Tiefenbach of Drummond Island, and Scott Tiefenbach of Drummond Island; daughter, Windy Ross of Sault Ste. Marie; ten grandchildren, Jessica Tiefenbach, Ashly (Andrew) Dorman, Amberlynn (Conor) Egan, Nathan (Kaitlyn Brugman) Tiefenbach, Christopher (Meaghan) Crawley, Brooke Tiefenbach, Matthew Tiefenbach, Makayla Ross, Kayleb Ross, and Pearl Tiefenbach; and great grandchildren, William Witcher, Addison Dorman, Aleah Dorman, Madlin Morris-Page, Katheryn Crawley, and Rylee Tiefenbach.
At Leonard’s request, no public services will be held.
