Kathleen Wallace Mellet, February 4, 2014

Kathleen Jane Mellet, age 72, of Birmingham, passed away February 5, 2014 at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, James P., whom she married on July 15, 1967 in Birmingham; son Edward (Deborah) Mellet; daughter Amanda (James) Burke; granddaughter Kaleigh Jane Mellet; and grandson Tyler James Mellet. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Aoife Burke.

Kathleen was born October 5, 1941 in Chatham, Ontario to the late Twyla and John Wallace. She grew up in the Detroit area, graduating from Redford High School in 1959. Kathleen attended Albion College and graduated from U of M. Her Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling was obtained at Wayne State University. In addition to raising her family, she was a teacher and counselor at Clawson Schools, Oxford Schools and Macomb County Jail. Kathleen enjoyed many arts including weaving, sewing, knitting and jewelry making. She loved reading and rooting for the underdog. She was passionate about women’s equality and bravely handled several later years of Polymyositis.

Private cremation has been entrusted to Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, Berkley. A memorial gathering will be Wednesday, February 12th, 10:00 AM until the memorial service at 11:00 AM at Birmingham Unitarian Church, 38651 Woodward, Bloomfield Hills, MI  48304.

The family would appreciate memorials to your favorite charity or Birmingham Unitarian Church

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Kathleen. I remember Kathleen while attending Emerson grade schoo and in the calsses at Redford. .

She was a very nice quiet person and always fun to be with. So sorry to hear the sad news.  Again extended thoughts and prayers to her family.

My family's deepest thoughts go to the Mellet family.

Kathleen's parents were very close friends of the Dean Sellers family.

Kathleen was one of my earliest and fondest friends.

Phyllis Schaupner (Cory)

Kathleen was our neighbor on Huntington.  A quiet, rather reserved person, she was ever gracious.  RIP
