IN MEMORY

John W. Shiller

John W. Shiller

John W. Shiller

1941-2022

John William Shiller died peacefully on November 9, 2022.  He was born on September 12, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to Benjamin (dec., 1979) and Ruth (dec., 2000) Shiller.  On December 2, 1967 he married Cornelia “Elly” in Southfield, Michigan.  John and Elly have four children, Mark (Jennifer) Shiller, Cynthia Shiller, Suzanne (Rodney) Coleman, and Carolyn Shiller, seven grandchildren, Courtney (Daniel) Hoffman, Maxwell (Alina) Shiller, Bennett Shiller, Alexander Coleman, Zachary Shiller, Anneke Shiller, and Myla Shiller, and two great-grandchildren, River Hoffman and Waylon Hoffman. John is also survived by his brother, Robert (Ginny) Shiller, his cousin, Donald (Debbie) Peterson, and other cousins and family members whom he loved. John and Elly were married nearly 55 years and resided in Detroit, Dearborn, Southfield, and Gregory, Michigan during that time.

John attended Albion College before transferring to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he graduated in 1961.  Afterwards, he pursued post graduate work at Wayne State University in Physics and obtained an MBA from the University of Michigan.  As a life-long learner, this was only the start of his education as throughout his life he dove deeply into many subjects with the full force of his strong intellect and curiosity.  He employed those attributes in the workplace at Bendix Corporation and for the bulk of his career at Ford Motor Company.  While at Ford, his expertise in air quality and related matters resulted in him being tapped to represent the automotive industry on air quality and climate matters nationally and internationally.  He shared many fond memories of travels to Germany, Japan, Kenya, and many other places.

As much as John was respected for his intellectual abilities, his faith and love for people were all the more admirable and prominent for those that knew him. He enjoyed and was interested in everyone he met and always left an impression.  He further wanted all to have the confidence that he had in Jesus Christ as savior – and heaven will have no better conversation partner than John.
