LUTZ, Fla. — Janice Clair Baers, 73, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 14, 2014, in Lutz, Fla. Born Aug. 2, 1940, in Munising, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Louis Miron and Violet Waskoski Miron. She moved to Detroit with her parents at age 3. In 1999, she was widowed by her husband, Robert William Baers.

She is survived by a son, Michael Baers of Lutz, Fla.; two daughters, Patricia Baers of Traverse City and Karen Baers of Clinton. Janice also is survived by one brother, Dennis Miron of Silver Springs, Fla.; and her five grandchildren, Joshua Baers, Ryan Held, Megan Baers, Nathan Baers and Anthony Held.

Janice retired from Farmington Hills, Mich., school district. Together, she and her husband retired to Black Lake in Cheboygan on land they purchased in the 1970s. The family enjoyed lake activities, walks in the woods and many campfire evenings. In 2002, Janice moved to Traverse City to be closer to her family. It was in Traverse City that she met her fiance, Louis Aginaga, whom she loved dearly. They shared 14 years of adventures to Florida and Mexico.

Janice was dedicated to the Red Cross and went to New Orleans to help with Hurricane Katrina relief then continued to work with the Red Cross at blood drives. For many years, Jan’s grandchildren were the focus of her life. Janice gave endless love to all her children and helped in any way she was able. Jan will be missed deeply and never forgotten. Blessing of the grave will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. In honor of Janice C. Baers, please donate to your local Red Cross.
