Robert Milton Colyer

Robert (Bob) Milton Colyer, of Dover, Delaware died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 69. Bob Colyer was born December 7, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Jack Dudley Colyer and Gertrude Estelle Kirsten Colyer. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Bob began a career with General Motors where he served as an executive for 25 years before retiring in 1989. Bob Colyer had also owned and operated a PIP Printing franchise in Morris County, New Jersey from 1990 - 2000. He was a member of the Whippany Rotary in New Jersey and was honored with the Paul Harris Fellowship. In Delaware he volunteered in the CASA program and the SCORE program.
Bob Colyer is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandra Sue Bentley Colyer of Dover; his daughter, Jennifer Sue Calautti and her husband Sal of Merrimack, New Hampshire; his son, Robert Colyer, Jr. and his wife Erin of Collegeville, Pennsylvania; his four grandchildren, Nicole and Justin Calautti and Jack and Brady Colyer.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at a later date. Letters of condolence may be sent, and a guestbook signed at torbertfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob can be made to the Whippany Rotary Charitable Trust c/o Whippany Rotary, P.O. Box 141, Whippany, NJ 07981 and/or Bay Health Foundation in honor of Robert Colyer/Milford Rehabilitation Center, 640 South State Street, Dover, DE 19901-3550.

I communicated with Bob a couple of times a year ago or so -- it seems like yesterday -- and we commiserated and compared notes about our various health problems. We didn't spend much time on our lengthy time together years ago when we were classmates at Edison, Redford and in Ann Arbor. Too bad, we would have had much to share and now we can't at least in this life. Sandy, my heart goes out to you in this very difficult time. RIP, old friend.

We just learned of Bob's being called home to be with his Lord.
Like Arnold, I played softball and attended Edison with Bob.
I remember him as being one of the kindest people I have ever known. I am sure his kindness blessed his family and friends throughout his life.

Sandy, I am sure that Bob is with our Lord, no doubt. It is just amazing how a loss like this effects those who knew you and Bob 50+ years ago. Bob , Dave Baldwin and I (and some other better players) played on a YMCA church basketball team with Bushnell. We were absolutely terrible but we tried real hard. As i said before, Bob was always positive that we were going to do well even though we did not. I have so many memories but I pray that you and your family find God's peace. You have many, many friends praying for you. Bob
