A Poetic Memory

I think it was in seventh grade, we were assigned to memorize the following poem, but it may have been in a later year.
I have cherished it all my life.

ABU BEN ADHEM (supposedly wreitten by James Henry Leigh Hunt, 1784-1859, according to Google)

Abu Ben Adam (may his tribe increase)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace
And saw, within the moonlight of his room
Making it rich, like a lily in bloom
An angel writing in a book of gold.
Exceeding peace had made Abu Ben Adam bold
And to the presence in his room he said
What writest thou?
The vision raised its head
And with a look of all sweet accord
Answered: "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abu.
"Nay not so," Replied the Angel'
Abu spoke more low
But cheerily still and said "I pray thee then
Write me as one that loves his fellow-men"
The angel wrote and vanished. The next night
It came again with awaking light
And showed the names of whom love of God had blessed.
And lo! Ben Adam's name led all the rest.

Another Poetic Memory

Mrs. Dickerson in her seventh grade homeroom had us say the 23rd Psalm  each day.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Me maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
