Pat, my Mama thinks Harding is still up and running, but that 'Shirley' ... you remember the smaller school beside us, has been shut down. If I learn anything different than this, I'll get back with you. You and your sons look super in the picture. I'd know you anywhere...imagine, since we were in kindergarten, Pat. WOW!

RE: Harding Reunion

It would be nice to see my Harding friends again.  I wonder if there is enough of them around to rent a meeting room.

"Stultzie" and I are the culprits who banged this around and decided to see who is interested.  I give credit to her for doing all the work.  I also will attend whatever we come up with.

Chuck, thanks for stepping up and being the first man to 'sign in'.

I hope others will take your lead, and we'll get a healthy head count going here.

The clock is ticking and the excitement is building.   We sure are a blessed group of 'kids'.

Nellie and all fellow Harding classmates:

In reply to Nellie's suggestion, my Mother, sister, husband and I ate there last August, and found it delicious, just like we remembered.  The restaurant isn't real big though, and I'd be more inclined to meet at 10 AM, so we could actually be there at 11, hopefully beating any lunch crowd.  Friday was ALWAYS the biggest day of the week for FISH places, and as far as I know, still is.

Scottie's is on Fenkell and Dolphin (I think).  It is two or three blocks past Lahser.  But if meeting in Hotel lobby, you do not have to worry about it.  I would image we will go caravan style.  I am already getting excited about the reunion are you?

Is this Scotties the same resturant on 5 mile that was doing business in the 50's? The one I am thinking of, was only open on the weekends, most of their business was carry-out.  They had the best fish dinners & I'd wait in long lines just to get some on Fridays.

Scotty's sounds great to me.  10 at the hotel is ok with me also.  I will keep checking to see if there is any change.  We used to get thier fish dinners almost every friday night carry out back then.  Remember it well and loved eating thier fish.

I took it off of Google Maps street view. Cool!

I remember going there also a few times, great fish and chips. Now you're making me want to go back.

I just found their website. I guess I could have used the photo that's there.

Ken, thank you very much for the super, 'just like we remember it', picture of Scotty's.  I knew I'd be calling them with a total head count for the Harding gang eating there, and you've even supplied the number for me.

Any of you who maybe have not clicked on the link Ken gave us ... you ought to take a moment and do it.  Nice story, pictures too.

Jim and Renate, you're on the list!  We're building a nice Harding group here;  thanks everyone.  Just a reminder...we'll meet at the Embassy at 10:00 AM Friday, September 25th for our trip to the best fish, shrimp, and chip place ever.

When my family and I ate at Scotty's last summer, we all ordered the fish, of course, since we were taking 'a trip down memory lane' and wanted to have exactly what we so fondly remembered.  However, a man sitting off to the side was eating alone and we did a little back and forth visiting with him.  He was having the shrimp, and he just raved and raved about it.  So, Jim, I thought of him the minute I read your comment.  I sure wish there was a Scotty's in Brookhaven, Mississippi !!!

Sorry for chiming in here... but on the website, Scottys does not open until 11AM on Friday. It will only take about 15 to 20 minutes to get there. Just saying...

Ken, I appreciate you pointing that out.  I went to the site, when you provided it, but so enjoyed reading the story and seeing the pictures, I overlooked that very important detail.

Okay Harding, let's say we meet (at the Embassy), between 10 and 10:30.  (Fair warning...I'll be in blue jeans and tennis shoes ... ' y'all ' (ha) be in whatever you want.  Then about 10:30, we'll decide how many drivers we'll need and who they'll be.  I'll take a quick minute to call Scotty's and let them know how many are 'on their way', and next we'll pile in with each other and head out.  Yippeee; what a delicious lunch awaits us all.

Ken, there's no one from the Harding '55 class who wouldn't love for you and Barbie to come along, I feel sure about this. I feel even more sure there's no way in this world any of us can thank you enough for this site. For the rest of our lives, you've given us a means of staying in touch...truly a priceless gift.

Harding goes to Scotty's...$$$
Posted Wednesday, August 26, 2009 01:48 PM

Ken, Nellie is so right...though this Scotty's outing was originally setup as our HARDING reunion, I know everyone would love to have you and Barbara along, especially since you seem to be a 'man without a grade school', now that's hardly fair !!!

Where would this RHS reunion be without the marvelous site you've given us to get back in touch, and stay in touch, for the rest of our lives!  We cannot thank you enough, Ken.

Please bring Barbara and come...be sure you're hungry, it's the best food...you'll see.

Harding class of June, 1955.

PS: Thanks to Nellie and Pat for reminding us about how to pay at Scotty's.  I'm dealing with CASH, but still - an important comment from you both.   Linda

Harding eats at Scotty's!

Hi Ralph:

I've added you and Elaine to the list.  Just meet us at 10...dressed down, for a comfortable meal and outing.  Maybe some touring about if everyone wants to look at the old neighborhood, or wherever (?) We'll divide up so taking the minimum amount of cars is worked out.  I'll call the owner before we leave the Embassy with a pretty close count of how many are heading over.

If you've never enjoyed a meal at Scotty's, I'm sure this will not be your last visit.  DELICIOUS!
