Let's see what other funny stories we can remember about her.  I can still picture her classroom with the windows facing the front of the school on Grand River. Her closet was on that same wall up toward the front of the room.  We just never knew what we were going to experience in that room.

I rember her telling us that part one third of her pay check went for her sister in a mental institution! Looking at her she must have been 70.

That totally explains it!!!    She must have had the same genes as her sister.  Sure would love to know how many more years she taught after we left RHS.

 Barb.  You say you must have blocked this event out and don't remember it but I sure remember (probably because I was in awe of your confidence and courage).  We were in Miss Doll's class and learning how to speak in front of a group.  The whole class managed to get through giving 5 minute demonstration, "show and tell," over a few day period.  You were absent on the day you were supposed to give yours because you had a figure ice skating competition that day and had to miss school.  Well, Miss Doll scratched her head and said, "Well, Barbara, since you missed giving your speech, just demonstrate to us right here and now what you did at your skating competition."  You clutched and said, "But I don't have my skates here."  She said, "That's OK...just show us with your shoes on.  Skate around the room like you did on the ice."  You either turned white or blushed, I can't remember.  But you did get up and shuffle-skated around the room a while watching for the cue to be able to sit down again.  Miss Doll said, "Now show us some more.  Twirl around."  I could almost see your heart sink but you took a deep breath and continued.  At the end, everyone applauded and Miss Doll was pleased.  Kooky as she was, she had an amazing influence on her students.  I had a creative English teacher like her in college.  Like Miss Doll, he also occasionally stood up on the desk to make a point.  Because of their ability to keep my interest, I definitely remember more textbook lessons from these two teachers than any others that I've ever had.

The worst teacher I ever had, bar none.  One fall, warm day, open windows, a fire truck went by and people looked out the window.  She gave us an assigment to write a paper on the little red truck.  The next class she asked for the paper, and we told her that it wasn't our class, probably 3rd Hr.  That was the end of it.

I remember her standing in the wastebasket because she felt a cold draft on her ankles.
