Help..my attempt to post on our Holcomb Forum ended up on the RHS Forum.  Someone smarter than me maybe could get my post back to the Holcomb Thread.  And by the way I don't think I was the one who put water on Mrs. Flanders chair!!

Bette Jo,

I did reply earlier today, but I am not sure it made it to you.  I have no brothers, but did have a cousin named Thane (Dennis Dean's brother).  I lived in a "G.I" bungalow from the age of 12 located on Greydale near Curtis.

twice??????  rochester hills is less than 45 minutes from the embassy suites....zip down telegraph road.    i know folks, (and have done so myself) that drive that distance to work every day.  the holcomb get-together is 4-6 pm...... not a late midnight event!  if she is not that interested in this special event....seeing good friends after 54+ years, i'm no one to cajole or goad her.  maybe holcomb years are not that memorable to her.  freedom of choice.   i'm sure that the work that you and cindy and others have put into bringing this thing off will be rewarded by the great feelings those in attendance will get.  thank you from here.      mike

Mike,

I am confused by your statement...my name has always been Karen Dietz never Kathy Dietz.  I had several cousins who went to Holcomb at the same time.  Mike Dean, Toni Dean, Kathy Groves, Jennifer Groves, Andrea Paldan.  Were you just checking to see if I was awake Mike? Now today I would understand if there was confusion about my name because it has change a few times...aka:  Karen Dietz, Karen Waltman, Karen Brown...

KAREN:  my kathy/karen comment was supposed to be a humorous 'barb' directed at a post that was made a little earlier than mine.  that earlier post, made by someone else, referred to you as kathy...and  it has since been edited to correct your pretty name.  i apologize for offending you.  please forgive me.    mike reissing

Karen, Mike is Mike and his humor is like mine. Dry, and hard to understand at times. Haven't found his Kathy reference as yet, maybe he spent too much time in the water that day. Love his latest pics. He looks great and will be fun to see. It is always great to know we classmates really haven't changed over the years. Tom Watson's post said it best and should be read by everyone. Mike Dean also has some wonderful input.

By the way, I think Mr. R should buy you the drink. Very best....Garry

To Garry and to my fellow Holcomb classmates,

Tom and Mike both put it well.  Those days offered a wonderful simplicity of growing up with a group that were pretty much on the same page.   I remember the fun and the laughter of those times, it didn't take much to get us started. I had no idea how sheltered and safe we were and how lucky we were to grow up in "those years". I remember the schools plays and the Xmas concerts. For us girls it was nylon blouses and taffeta skirts with our first pair of heels...wow.  It was an age of innocence that really did exist. This reunion has brought back many things I had packed away in my memories. It's been great to recall Bentler Ave. & Santa Clara and Curtis streets and Gozzlins (?)..penny candy and so much more .

My thanks to the committee who has worked so hard to pull this together and to Ken for this wonderful site which has taken on a life of it's own.

Who are these cuties?  Thanks to Bette Bergman for supplying these photos.  Bette is on the far left.  Joan Aldridge is next to her and behind the next two girls.  The middle girl in back row is Pat Cope and Margaret Snow is next to her.  Fill in the blanks.  We'll complete at the reunion.

Another photo supplied by Bette Bergman.  Her dad took both of these pictures.  Grant Cleverly is in front.  Bette Bergman is at far left in second row.  Harold Staley is third in same row.  Margaret Snow is 2nd from left in second row. Pat cope is at far right in same row.  Carl Geistler is at right in last row.  Enjoy!

My sister, Doris, is attending the 1960 50th reunion for Redford High this Sept and they have this same website for their class.  Tom Scheffer (not sure of spelling) who I remember at Holcomb in our class at least in the lower grades graduated with the class of 1960 (not sure about Holcomb).  He posted a message that he went to visit Holcomb last week as it is to be torn down this summer.  He did take photos.  He said he phoned first and had to be buzzed into the school.  He park out front and the car was still there when he came out.  He said the school was MUCH SMALLER than he remembered.  I hope we can see copies of the photos he took.  I'll post them if I can.   Joan Aldridge Gordon

tom schafer(sp?), a big strong handsome guy, was a buddy of mine, norm, jewet, thornley, etc. and graduated with us from holcomb.  but he attended high school in mississippi and revisited detroit in the summers.  (may be a different tom schafer).  i visited holcomb a few years back and found a big cupboard in  the science room (used to be home ec) that had several old scrapbooks/albums/archival stuff that someone had saved......  news clippings and mimeographed programs for assemblies etc.  one news clipping photo was of my mom playing the piano at a pta meeting.  the school was about 93.5% black kids.....  the building, inside and out was nostalgically and eeriely identical to 1954.  holcomb elementary.....R.I.P.

geeze, i wish i could make it up to this wake....  seriously.....  even more
than the rhs59 reunon i think.  we spent 9 years at holcomb....  and the
wonderful memories of redford are actually contingent on our holcomb friends,
right? based on my visit to holcomb circa 2004, at least the board of education
kept the building in very good shape (in contrast to the surrounding
neighborhood.  didn't sylvia rutkowski live right across the street....  and
another girl classmate....  bette jo?) the final walkthrough etc. is such a
great idea....  who thought of it?      mike    (p.s.  i hope that there is a
mrs. goslins in heaven so i can once again shoplift one of those 5 cent cherry
pies (10 cents?....  i don't know....  i stole it)

Hi Mike,

Yes, Sylvia lived right across the street,2nd house from Thatcher towards Gosslins.  I lived in the 2nd house from Thatcher in the other direction, across from the playground.  I can remember going home at lunchtime and sometimes taking water pistols home to refill.  I don't remember for whom!
