Pitcher School Posted Monday, July 20, 2009 03:07 PM Ours was a new school, modern and wonderfully built with walnut paneling on the inside and Pewabic ceramic tiles on the outside. It was my sister, twenty years younger than I am, who told me those details recently. (I hadn't noticed when I attended school there.) She also told me SHE had Miss Peele. We tried to figure how old she was. Now that I am a retired teacher, I realize Miss Peele was not so very old, after all, and I do appreciate her lessons. I still sing songs we learned in her classes. How about you? Remember Mr. Ingersoll? Was I the only 7th or 8th grader who had a crush on him? Mr. Currie, our history teacher, had a colorful World War II background, but I don't know what it was. We had Girl Scout day camps in Pitcher Woods. We were the last class to go to Redford from Pitcher as Henry Ford opened its doors. I seem to remember having a choice to finish my senior year there or continue at Redford. My younger siblings all went to Henry Ford. |
